Eyebrow transplant

What is eyebrow transplant good for?

Thick, lush eyebrows have become a new fashion. The lack of hair can cause everyday anxiety from an aesthetic point of view, for which the surgical reconstruction of the eyebrows can be a solution. However, eyebrow transplantation is also used for the visual correction of eyebrows sitting at an asymmetrical height, thereby eliminating a more invasive eyebrow lift or forehead plastic surgery.

How does a transplant work?

The hairs are extracted using FUE2 (Follicular Unit Extraction) Safe System technology per hair follicle unit - considering the degree of lack of eyebrows - from the back and sides of the head, the armpits, or a combination of both areas. The extraction is done with a 0.6-0.7 mm micro circular punch.

In a unique way in Hungary, the size of the needle diameter is chosen based on individual characteristics.

In the case of eyebrow transplantation, we specifically target the thinner hairs, and for this reason we use the smallest possible diameter punch during the operation, thus ensuring a natural result.

The punch size is adjusted during the operation depending on the strength of the hairs so that the surgical area heals without a trace. Our basic principle is that for a truly aesthetic hair transplant, great emphasis must also be placed on preserving the integrity of the donor area.

With FUE2 technology, body hair (e.g. armpits) can also be removed and transplanted into hair-deficient areas in case of adequate strength and richness of the hair. Because body hair differs from hairof the scalp, it can be suitable for replacing eyebrow hair.

How long is a procedure?

The duration of the procedure depends on the strength, color and density of the hairs, as well as the number of extracted and transplanted hairs. Hair-planted eyebrow surgery usually takes 3-5 hours, depending on the degree of deficiency. In the case of body hair transplantation, depending on the degree of difficulty of extraction, a longer operation time can be expected. In all cases, we assess the condition of the eyebrows during a preliminary medical consultation and prepare an individual therapy plan.

How successful is an transplant?

At least 90% of transplanted hairs last a lifetime. At our clinic, we guarantee a successful result. In the case of previously tattooed eyebrows, or as a result of tattoo removal techniques, the skin under the eyebrows may be scarred. When transplanted into scar tissue, the survival of the hair depends on the blood supply of the affected area, and in these cases we have to expect a lower survival rate.

How much does such an intervention hurt?

The operation is performed in a relatively small surgical area. Thus, the local anesthesia can be performed with a few injections. After that, the procedure is completely painless.

What does a surgery look like?

  • Arrival at the clinic at the agreed time
  • Read and sign information sheets, contracts, and declarations of consent
  • Brief discussion of the process of the intervention
  • Blood pressure measurement, premedication
  • Haircut, eyebrow planning, photography
  • Extraction (of grafts (hair units)) in a prone position or in case of body hair surgery in the supine position under local anesthesia
  • Short break
  • Preparation of receiving sites, implantation of grafts (lying on the back) under local anesthesia
  • Photography
  • Discussing what to do in the post-surgery period, handing over the care package

What to do after surgery?

Aftercare at home after surgery is crucial for maintaining the new eyebrow hair!

Regeneration is fast, you can return to work after a few days, but for 3 weeks after the operation, you must avoid sweating, sports, physical work, you must not bend, lift weights, or smoke. Furthermore, for 7-10 days, activities involving intensive facial movements and expressions should be avoided.

After eyebrow implantation, vaseline should be kept on the eyebrows for one week. In the second week, the eyebrows should be softened by cotton pads twice a day to clean the surgical area. After 1 month, pre-intervention routine can be continued. The new eyebrow hair can be treated in the same way as the original eyebrows, it can be cut, dyed, etc.

Are there side effects?

Swelling (oedema) and bruising may occur in the implanted area, which may extend to the eye area, but will be absorbed without a trace in 3-4 days. In order to absorb the swelling as soon as possible, in the first three days it is worth resting as much as possible lying down. A mild fever may rarely occur, if necessary, an antipyretic can be taken. Itching may occur as the wound heals! Moistening the area can relieve complaints.

After the procedure, the surgical areas may be irritated and sensitive, and a hypersensation may also occur. The possible nature, extent and duration of this side effect varies from person to person and can last from a few weeks to even months.

Some inflammation of hair follicles and acne may appear on the skin. In such cases, the spontaneous healing may be speeded up by massaging with your fingertips.

Will the transplanted eyebrow hair fall out first?

The hairs are 1-2 mm long at the time of transplantation, they start to grow first and then fall out after 3-5 weeks. This is a natural process, the hair bulb remains in the skin, it just sheds the hair. After a few months of regeneration time, the hairs begin to grow again. The final result can be seen after 10-14 months.

Do transplanted eyebrows need to be shaped?

The transplanted hair carries its original properties, hair from the scalp grows faster, the body hair slower, but both grow at a higher rate than natural eyebrow hair. For this reason, it is recommended to trim the transplanted hair regularly and shape it for an aesthetic appearance.

FAQ

What can cause eyebrow loss?
In many cases, it is not possible to determine what exactly causes eyebrow hair loss. Due to the fashion of the ‘90s and 2000s, many people regularly plucked their eyebrows very thin, as a result of which the hair did not grow back after a while. Some skin diseases can also cause a lack of eyebrows, it can be congenital, or the hair can thin out due to tattoos or microneedling.
How does eyebrow transplantation work?
We work with own hair or body hair. The hair follicles located in the back and side regions of the scalp or in the armpits are extracted and implanted in the pre-marked eyebrow areas at an appropriate angle and density.
Is the result long-lasting?
The transplanted hair follicles remain strong and viable in their new place for a lifetime.
Is it possible to extract without leaving scars behind in the donor area?
Yes! In the case of eyebrow transplantation, we use the smallest possible punch and extract the thinnest hairs, so the donor area heals without a trace.
When will the eyebrow transplant have a viable result?
We usually have a partial aesthetic result already in 5-6th month, but we see a final result 10-12 months after the procedure.
Is it enough to have only one eyebrow transplant?
It depends on the degree of eyebrow deficiency. One intervention may be sufficient, but in some cases, due to the extent of the deficiency, thickening surgery may be necessary, which is usually a smaller intervention than the first.
Does eyebrow transplant hurt?
The operation is performed under local anesthesia in a relatively small surgical area, so anesthesia can be performed with a few injections. After that, the procedure is completely painless.
How should one prepare for surgery?
A laboratory test is required before the intervention, there is nothing else to do. It is not recommended to drink coffee directly before surgery, and all previously prescribed medications must be taken before the surgery.
What should be done after surgery?
Regeneration is fast, you can return to work after a few days, but for 3 weeks after the operation, you must avoid sweating, sports, physical work, you must not bend, lift weights, or smoke. Furthermore, for 7-10 days, activities involving intensive facial movements and expressions should be avoided. After eyebrow implantation, vaseline should be kept on the eyebrows for one week. In the second week, the eyebrows should be softened by cotton pads twice a day to clean the surgical area.
When can I return to my pre-surgery routine?
On the 10th day, the hair follicles are embedded, after which one can return to their normal routine with caution. Activities involving strong sweating can be performed again 3-4 weeks after the intervention and the new eyebrow can then be treated in the same way as in its original place, it can be shaped, dyed, etc.
