Hair transplant

What is a hair transplant good for?

Hair transplantation is performed using the FUE2 (Follicular Unit Extraction) Safe System technique, primarily for the correction of genetic hair loss caused by hormonal effects. With hair transplantation, in addition to genetic baldness, scar tissues of mechanical injuries, burns, or surgically removed skin lesions can also be covered by this procedure. On our References page, we present some of your results. Hair loss and baldness is a very diverse phenomenon, the accurate diagnosis of which is essential for setting up a therapeutic protocol. We cannot cure all hair loss with a hair transplant. We write in more detail about the causes of hair loss and its treatment options in our Reneva Blog post.

How does a transplant take place?

The hairs are extracted in groups, per follicular unit, from the back and sides of the head. The hair follicles here are genetically insensitive to the dihydrotestosterone (DHT) hormone, which causes male pattern hair loss, so they remain resistant even in their new location location following the transplant and last a lifetime. The extraction is performed with a 0.6-0.9 mm circular micro punch.

The extraction is performed with a 0.6-0.9 mm circular micro punch. Done in a unique way in Hungary, the size of the needle diameter is chosen based on individual characteristics of the patient. The needle size is also adjusted during the operation depending on the strength of the hairs located in the different donor regions. Considering the size of the hair follicles and the density of the hair, we work with the smallest possible diameter micro punch to ensure that the surgical area heals flawlessly. Our basic principle is that for a truly aesthetic hair transplant, the donor area needs to be preserved.

With FUE2 technology, body hair (e.g. back, chest, armpits) can also be removed and transplanted into affected areas for adequate strength and density. Due to the different properties of body hair, this is only recommended in special cases, such as a weak donor area or replacement of eyebrow hair.

How long is an operation?

The duration of the procedure depends on the strength, color and density of the hair, as well as the number of extracted and transplanted hairs. Minor hair loss is corrected with a 1-day surgery, however, in case of more extensive hair loss, multiple days of intervention may be required. Usually max. 4000-5000 hair shafts can be transplanted in one day. In all cases, we assess the condition of the hair during a preliminary medical consultation and create an individual therapy plan.

How much does such a procedure hurt?

The operation is performed under local anesthesia. We use a special technique that makes the procedure more comfortable in both the donor and recipient areas. We provide detailed information about these methods during the preliminary medical consultation.

How does a day of surgery go?

  • Arrival at the clinic at the agreed time
  • Read and sign information sheets, contracts, and declarations of consent
  • Brief discussion of the process of the intervention
  • Selecting lunch or dinner from the menu
  • Blood pressure measurement, premedication
  • Haircut, hair condition assessment, hairline design, photography
  • Extraction (of grafts (hair units)) in prone position under local anesthesia
  • Lunch or dinner break
  • Preparing the receiving sites, implanting the grafts (in sitting, possibly lying position) under local anesthesia
  • Photography
  • Discussing what to do in the post-surgery period, handing over the care package

What to do after surgery?

Aftercare at home after surgery is crucial for maintaining hair!

Regeneration is fast, you can return to work after a few days, but for 3 weeks after the operation you must avoid sweating, sports, physical work, you must not bend, lift weights, smoke, steam, dust must not touch the scalp, you must not smoke.

The surgical area must be cleaned intensively for one week after the procedure. The implanted area must be sprayed every 2 hours for 3 days with the solution received on the day of surgery. From the 4th day, you should soak the implanted area with shampoo foam twice a day, in the morning and in the evening, until the one-week check-up. Then, you can return to a normal hair washing routine. After 1 month, you can return to your pre-intervention routine. The new hair can be treated in the same way as in its original place, it can be cut, dyed, etc.

We write in more detail about what to do before and after surgery in our Reneva Blog post.

Are there side effects?

Swelling (oedema) may occur in the implanted area, which may also extend to the forehead, but will be absorbed without a trace in 3-4 days. In order to absorb the swelling as soon as possible, in the first three days it is worth lying down as much as possible. An increase in temperature and fever may rarely occur, if necessary, antipyretic is recommended. Itching may be experienced as the wound heals, but moistening the area can relieve complaints.

In the period following the operation, the scalp may be irritated, sensitive, and a sensation may occur. The possible nature, extent and duration of this side effect varies from person to person, and can last from a few weeks to even months.

Some inflammation of hair follicles and acne may appear on the scalp. In such cases spontaneous healing can be accelerated by massaging the skin.

Will the transplanted hair fall out first?

The transplanted hairs are 1-2 mm long at the time of transplantation, they start to grow after the procedure, and then fall out after 3-5 weeks. This is a natural process, the hair bulb remains in the scalp, it just sheds the hair. After a few months of regeneration time, the hairs begin to grow again. Within 4-6 weeks, however, we can already see the new, emerging hairs. Then, it is worth helping the regeneration with mesotherapy. The final result can be seen 10-14 months.

FAQ

What causes hair loss in men?
Most often, hair loss is caused by a converted form of testosterone, the DHT hormone. This hormone is essential for our body, and since the hair follicles are genetically sensitive to it, balding can be experienced even with low or normal hormone levels.
How does hair transplant work?
We work with one’s own hair. The resistant, strong hair follicles are extracted from the back and side regions of the scalp and implanted in the bald areas at the right angle and density.
Is the result long-lasting?
The result lasts a lifetime, as the transplanted hair follicles are resistant to the DHT hormone and retain this property in their new location. Thus, by transplanting them to the bald areas, they remain strong and viable for a lifetime.
Will a new hair grow in place of the extracted follicles?
Unfortunately, no, so it is very important that the follicles are removed with the right method and density so that no trace of the removal remains after the skin has healed.
Is it possible to extract without leaving scars behind in the donor area?
Yes! At Reneva, in a unique way in Hungary, we choose the size of the punch diameter based on individual characteristics. The punch size is also adjusted during the operation depending on the strength of the hairs located in the different donor regions. Considering the size of the hair follicles and the density of the hair, we work with the smallest possible diameter punch to ensure that the surgical area heals without a trace. Our basic principle is that for a truly aesthetic hair transplant, great emphasis must also be put on preserving the integrity of the donor area.
When will the hair transplant have a viable result?
We usually have a partial aesthetic result already in 5-6th month, especially if we stimulate the regeneration of the hair follicles with mesotherapy treatments 2-3 months after the surgery. We see a final result 10-12 months after the procedure.
Does the hair start to grow immediately after the procedure?
Minimal growth can be seen in the first month, but after that the transplanted hairs fall out. Within 4-6 weeks, however, we can already see the new, growing hairs. Then it is worth helping the regeneration with mesotherapy sessions.
Is it enough to have only one hair transplant?
This depends on the pattern and extent of baldness. One intervention may be sufficient if a smaller bald area is reconstructed. If the hair loss is extensive, or continues after surgery, several interventions may be necessary to achieve the perfect result.
Does hair transplant hurt?
The operation is performed under local anesthesia, the process of which is accompanied by an unpleasant stinging sensation. For this reason, at Reneva, we use a special technique that makes the intervention more comfortable in both the donor and recipient areas.
How should one prepare for surgery?
A laboratory test is required before the intervention, there is nothing else to do. It is not recommended to drink coffee directly before surgery, and all previously prescribed medications must be taken before the surgery.
What should be done after surgery?
In the 3 weeks following the operation, you must avoid sweating, sports, physical work, you must not bend, lift weights or smoke. The implanted area should be sprayed every 2 hours for 3 days with the solution received on the day of surgery. From the 4th day, shampoo foam must be applied ont he implanted area twice a day until the one-week check-up.
When can I return to my pre-surgery routine?
On the 10th day, the hair follicles are embedded, after which one can return to their normal routine with caution. Activities involving strong sweating can be performed again 3-4 weeks after the intervention and the new hair can then be treated in the same way as in its original place, it can be cut, dyed, etc.
